TAYSAD considers the European Commission’s “Made in EU” plan a critical development for the Turkish automotive industry.
The European Commission’s “Made in EU” plan is seen as a major turning point for the Turkish automotive supply industry. The regulation, which enables products manufactured in Türkiye under the Customs Union to be recognized as having EU origin, is set to elevate nearly 30 years of industrial integration to a new level. With this development, the Turkish automotive supply industry is expected to further strengthen its position within European production networks.
Announced במסגרת the European Union’s Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA), the proposal aims to enhance industrial competitiveness and brings an important advancement for Türkiye. According to the draft shared by the European Commission, a framework has been established to recognize products manufactured in countries that have a Customs Union with the EU as EU-origin products. This provides a clear legal basis for including goods produced in Türkiye—already integrated into the European value chain—within the “Made in EU” scope.
Commenting on the development, TAYSAD Chairman of the Board Yakup Birinci stated, “This long-anticipated development is a highly significant step for the Turkish automotive supply industry.” He emphasized that the decision is a natural outcome of the long-standing industrial integration between Türkiye and Europe, adding that Türkiye has long been one of the key suppliers to the European automotive industry and an integral part of its value chain.
Highlighting that TAYSAD members operate at global standards, Birinci noted, “We are an integral part of the European value chain. Thanks to our production infrastructure, engineering capabilities, and integrated supply structure, we have established a strong and mutually dependent production ecosystem with European OEMs. Therefore, recognizing products manufactured in Türkiye within this framework is a rational approach both for enhancing Europe’s industrial competitiveness and ensuring supply security.”
Pointing out that global supply chains are being reshaped, Birinci concluded: “We believe this regulation represents a win-win development for both suppliers in Türkiye and manufacturers in Europe. As TAYSAD, we have long kept this issue on our agenda, engaged with relevant institutions together with our stakeholders, and maintained close dialogue with our European counterparts to emphasize Türkiye’s strategic role in the European automotive ecosystem. We will continue to closely monitor the implementation process and ensure that steps are taken to sustain our members’ competitiveness and their integrated production structure with Europe.”
